Cake Care 101
Cake Care 101
No celebration is ever complete without a sweet treat, or a few! It’s hard to resist from sinking your teeth into a moist cake with melt-in-your-mouth frosting. However, you could end up with a horrible experience of having hard chunks of cream or cake with bad texture in your mouth if the cake is not handled properly before serving.
Want to know how to prevent a negative cake experience? Here’s our top cake care tips for all kinds of cakes and sweet treats!
Buttercream Cakes
Buttercream, as the name suggests, consists mostly of butter which hardens when chilled. We would recommend taking buttercream cakes out of the refrigerator and leaving it at room temperature for around an hour before slicing and serving for the best taste and texture.
Fondant Cakes
Refrigerating your fondant cake may cause it to soften and sweat as the fondant absorbs moisture in the air. Fondant cakes such as this Safari Animals Cake, should be kept in an air-conditioned room. Using a serrated knife will give you clean-cut slices of cake!
Cheesecakes and Mousse Cakes
Cheesecakes and mousse cakes should be refrigerated immediately upon receiving due to its soft texture. They are best served chilled, too! Do allow your cake to chill in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.
Cakes with Figurines
Cakes decorated with figurines and other decorative elements like this Bunny Cake may be supported by toothpicks, wires or wooden skewers to keep the decorations in place. Do ensure that these items are removed before serving the cake!
Cakes with Fresh Fruits
Do keep fresh fruit cakes like our Mango Rose Cake in the chiller to retain its freshness. We recommend consuming these cakes within 3 days of receiving it. Don’t be alarmed if the fruits turn a little brown, it’s normal for fresh fruits to oxidize as they become exposed to air and does not mean that the fruits are spoiled.
Ice Cream Cakes
Ice cream cakes must be kept in the freezer upon delivery. Before serving it to your guests, place your ice cream cake in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or at room temperature for 15 minutes to thaw. Run your knife under warm water and it will be super easy to cut through your ice cream cake!
Savoury/Rice Cakes
There’s no better time to enjoy a savoury/rice cake than when it arrives to you warm and fresh! For cakes like our Nasi Lemak Cake, you should definitely consume the cake on the day itself as it is made with coconut milk that may turn sour if left overnight.
Transporting a Cake
In cases where you have to transport your cake to another location, place your cake on a level surface, avoid direct sunlight and face the air conditioning towards the cake. And of course, take it slow and drive safely!
